IronPeak Lighting vs Govee · 2026

Govee permanent lights or a pro-grade IronPeak system: which belongs on your roof?

The short answer

Govee costs less up front: its store lists Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 at $279.99. For lights meant to stay up year-round, IronPeak is the lower-risk choice: aluminum track instead of adhesive-and-screw mounting, a 5-year warranty instead of 3, pre-built pitch-matched peaks, and a local pro can install it, or you can.

What you pay, and what it buys

The price gap, and what the difference pays for

Govee is the lower-cost option up front. Prices come from each company's own store; lengths and what's included differ.

What the difference buys

  • Aluminum track (6063-T6 architectural aluminum, powder-coated) instead of adhesive-and-screw mounting.
  • A 5-Year Product Warranty on the LED strands, controller, and power supply, instead of Govee's 3-year warranty.
  • Pre-built, pitch-matched TrueCenter Apex Track peaks; Govee publishes no roof-peak piece.
  • A UL-certified 24V 600W power supply with surge and overcurrent protection in one control box.
  • The choice of a local pro, or your own two hands.

The decision

Three things that decide how long it looks right

How it's mounted, how long it's covered, and whether the peaks come out straight.

Power and safety

What powers the lights

The power supply is the part most buyers never look at. Here's what each company publishes about it.

IronPeak Lighting

UL-certified 24V 600W power supply with built-in multi-layer surge protection and auto-reset overcurrent protection (6A per channel), in an all-in-one control box; designed to run at about 75% of capacity at full load; 5-Year Product Warranty covering the LED strands, controller and power supply.

Govee

Adapter rating varies by line (36V, 72–108W). On the Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro, Govee's own spec table lists the adapter as 'Indoor Use' ('The adapter is for indoor use only'), so plan for an indoor or garage outlet; Govee's 2 Pro and Prism lines list outdoor-rated adapters. Check the adapter label before mounting anything outside.

  • One enclosure holds the power supply, a 4-zone controller and the power-injection outputs, with one mount point and one power connection.
  • Overcurrent protection resets itself: no fuses to replace.
  • The 600W supply is oversized on purpose, for longevity and room to expand.
  • T-connectors pass data straight through and add power on a separate port, so data and power can't be crossed.
  • Start with two zones and add the sides, gables and second story later on zones 3 and 4, with no new controller or power supply.

How to check a permanent-lighting power supply before you buy

  1. Read the label on the power supply itself, not the marketing copy: input and output voltage, amperage and total wattage. Compare it with the number and rated draw of the lights it powers. You want real headroom, not a number that's maxed out.
  2. Check the power supply's own environmental rating and where the maker says it must be mounted. One marked for indoor or dry locations belongs in a garage, an attic or a weatherproof enclosure, even if the light strand is outdoor-rated.
  3. Look for a recognized electrical safety mark printed on the adapter: UL, ETL/cETL or another nationally recognized testing laboratory's mark. Don't mistake an FCC mark for one; FCC certification covers radio-frequency interference, not electrical or fire safety.
  4. Check what the warranty covers. Some cover the lights but not the power supply.
  5. If the power supply ever needs replacing, use the manufacturer's specified replacement.

Real installs, a real guarantee

The peak is covered by the 30-Day Perfect Peak Guarantee: "If any Apex peak doesn't sit true and symmetrical out of the box, we replace it free and cover the shipping — no hassle."

Honest fit

Who should pick which

When Govee may fit better

  • You want the lower upfront price, and you're comfortable mounting the lights yourself.
  • Voice control through Alexa, Google Assistant or Matter matters most to you.

If neither describes you, look at a pro-grade system.

Installers: when a customer asks "why not Govee?"

It's a fair question, and Govee does cost less up front. Walk them through four published facts: the mount (aluminum track vs adhesive-and-screw mounting), the warranty (5 years vs 3), the peaks (pre-built and pitch-matched vs none published) and the power supply (a UL-certified 24V 600W supply with surge and overcurrent protection in one control box vs an adapter whose rating varies by line).

Why IronPeak starts at $0

A note from the founder

Devan, founder of IronPeak Lighting

I built IronPeak as a product company: premium quality, without the lock-in. The product has to earn your business every year through quality and constant improvement, not through a gate.

We think any required payment to get in works like a gate to this industry, even when the money goes toward materials. So there's no fee to start. There are no territories either: a territory just locks out the installer who takes more pride in their work and their name.

Build your business under your own name and set your own prices; every market is different. We set out to be different, and we keep evolving to be better, not just for us, but for the industry as a whole.

Common questions

Questions people ask before they choose

Is Govee permanent lighting cheaper than IronPeak?

Up front, yes. Govee's store lists Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 at $279.99. IronPeak roofline kits run from $1,299 (100 ft) to $3,499 (300 ft); those are kit (materials) prices. If a local installer puts it up, the installer sets the installed price; most charge $30–32 per foot.

How long is Govee's permanent lights warranty?

Govee's permanent outdoor lights collection page says the lights come with a 3-year warranty. IronPeak's 5-Year Product Warranty: "The components — LED strands, controller, and power supply — are covered against product defects for 5 years from purchase. (Normal weather wear-and-tear isn't a defect and isn't covered.)"

Can the Govee power adapter be mounted outside?

It depends on the line.

Does Govee make a roof-peak piece?

Not on the Govee product and collection pages we checked. IronPeak's TrueCenter Apex Track is a patent-pending, pre-built peak piece matched to a 4/12, 6/12, 9/12 or 12/12 roof pitch, and every IronPeak roofline kit includes at least one.

Can I install IronPeak myself?

Yes. Anyone can buy a kit and install it, or have a local installer do it. Kits are matched to your roof pitch and use factory-terminated connectors, so there's no field splicing.
