Permanent lighting dealer programs: what each one asks for before your first job

The short answer

Most dealer programs we checked ask for cash before your first job: a fee, a materials payment or opening inventory. Some of it goes toward materials. It's still a gate. IronPeak Lighting has none: $0 fee, no territory, no quota, no contract. Your first kit, from $1,299, makes you a dealer.

What each program asks for up front

From each company's own pages, read September 23–24, 2026. The amounts are structured differently (a fee, a credit toward materials, or an inventory purchase), so read the notes.

Is inventory a gate if it goes toward materials?

Gemstone Lights charges no dealer fee, and says so. It also requires new dealers to buy roughly $10,000–$15,000 of inventory plus the material for the first install. That money goes toward materials, and it's still cash you need before your first job. That's a gate.

IronPeak set out to be different: no gate of any kind, and a product that has to keep earning your business.

Freedom

Your name. Your prices.

IronPeak recommends you build the business under your own name. You can say you sell or install IronPeak product if you choose.

IronPeak never sets your retail price, because every market is different. Most installers charge about $30–32 per foot installed; IronPeak suggests not going below $25.

IronPeak shares what works in its own area and from other dealers, and doesn't force anyone into a box.

How much does it cost to become a permanent lighting dealer?

It depends on the program. From each company's own pages: IronPeak Lighting $0 (your first kit, from $1,299, makes you a dealer); BlueHopper a $99.99 registration fee; ShawTech Lighting a $200 onboarding fee; Haven Lighting a $1,200 application fee (refunded if not approved), refundable if not approved; Oelo a $5,000 dealer initiation fee for Authorized Dealers; Trimlight an upfront materials payment of $5,000 + $499, or a $10,000 entry amount; JellyFish Lighting a typical start-up cost of $10,000; Gemstone Lights no fee, but roughly $10,000–$15,000 of opening inventory.

Which permanent lighting dealer programs have no fee?

IronPeak Lighting charges no fee; your first kit makes you a dealer. Gemstone Lights says it doesn't charge anyone to become an authorized dealer, but it requires roughly $10,000–$15,000 of opening inventory. Oelo's page names no initiation fee for its Contractor level; its Authorized Dealer level has a $5,000 initiation fee.

Do permanent lighting dealers get exclusive territories?

Most don't. IronPeak Lighting assigns no territories, JellyFish Lighting says it does not have or sell territories, Gemstone Lights says there are no exclusive territories in its dealer program, and ShawTech Lighting states no territory restrictions. Trimlight sets dealer territories by zip code. Haven Lighting says it limits its dealer network by geography. BlueHopper's dealer agreement disclaims any promise of territory or exclusivity. Oelo's territory policy is not published.

Is opening inventory the same as a dealer fee?

No. Inventory goes toward materials you can install, and a fee doesn't. Either way, it's cash you need before your first job. Gemstone Lights, for example, charges no fee but requires roughly $10,000–$15,000 of inventory plus the material for the first install. IronPeak Lighting requires neither: you buy one kit at a time.

Can homeowners buy IronPeak Lighting?

Yes. IronPeak is built for professional installers first, and homeowners can buy any kit and install it themselves or have a local installer do it.

Why does IronPeak charge $0 to become a dealer?

IronPeak is a product company. It aims to earn dealers through product quality and constant improvement every year, not through a gate. With no fee, territory, quota or contract, the product has to keep earning the business.
